Naked-Eye Sightings of Mysterious Orbs (Part 10)

Mysterious orbs have been in the news lately. For example, below is a screen shot showing a headline from one major newspaper:

Below are some posts I have published about people reporting they saw mysterious orbs with the naked eye:

Below is a newspaper account from 1952, describing a "spooky, glowing ball of light."

crowd gathers to see mystery orb

You can read the full account using the link below:

We have four police witnesses of a spooky orb that moves from a road into the woods, and then changes color from yellow to red before disappearing.

At the site of the National UFO Reporting Center (https://nuforc.org/) we have a post listing UFO/UAP sightings. They include these:

In February of 2024 someone reported seeing this:

"I observed 1 large pulsating orb red/orange about a mile away to the east. The orb would change colours gradually between more orange than red, then vice versa. I observed this from a vantage point of a canal bridge. The orb was still before slowly getting lower to the ground. I estimate the height in the sky to be about as high a a ten storey tower block as I could use the terrain and surrounding buildings for context. As it was getting lower, it split into 3 orbs, all the same size, and moved lower and south in perfect formation. They then rotated around each other two or three times before flying off at instant high speeds at an angle to the North. About a second later, they were out of sight. It certainly wasn't weather phenomenon. It was deliberately, controlled and clear with a blue sky backdrop making it easy to identify the details."

Another person claims that on September 14, 2023 he had a very detailed encounter with sky orbs, an encounter lasting hours. Below are some excerpts from a much longer account that uses the word "orb" very many times.

"All of these orbs would dance around, travel, then eventually disappear. Some would reappear as they had before, do nearly the same dance, travel the same direction, all to disappear again. This went on for hours! There was no rhythm, no order, no definite pattern to their behavior but just random antics, again and again and again....Another curious thing the orb would do is multiply. As you watched it, it would seem to clone itself and birth other orbs the same size and shine as the original. These orbs would trail off and disappear, leaving the main one to dance with its self. A time or two that night, other orbs would show up and the two or three or more would dance back and forth like they were interacting somehow. They would eventually disappear, leaving the original one to itself again."

Another person claims to have seen orbs coming from what looked like a spacecraft:

"Me and my father were driving home after leaving a family members house. We came to a stop sign, I looked up and said 'what in the hell is that!?' At that time my father saw it as well, he had no response. We were froze with awe. It was an egg shaped craft, about the size of bus, maybe bigger. It had a beam of light that came out from no source that I could tell, it simply emitted from the ship. The beam of light scanned the geography, we could see the light moving over the trees in the ground scanning everything. Then that beam of light disappeared, and two orbs came out of The Craft, almost like watching a lava lamp blob separate from another blob it just kind of stretched out from it and formed an orb and then another. One was red one was yellow. The two orbs then began circling the larger craft, they did this for about 1 minute maybe 30 seconds not sure, then they went back into the ship."

At another site we read this account:

"In Rothesay, New Brunswick, in August 2022 around 4 pm, two witnesses observed 8 glowing red orbs, approximately 750-1000 meters away, moving in a sine wave manner. After approximately 30 seconds, the orbs converged and vanished."

On another page of the same site we read this:

"In 1993, a couple in Lake County, Florida, experienced a UAP sighting on their cattle ranch. They were awakened by bright lights from three orbs, approximately 30 meters off the ground. One orb appeared suddenly at their window, causing a buzzing sensation on their bodies. The orbs quickly departed towards a neighboring ranch. Following this event, the couple reported strange experiences and paranormal activities in their lives."

Here is the beginning of a newspaper account from 1897:

dead sister's warning

We read in the account of a badly wounded prisoner (John Jordan) who is being transported by stage coach. We read this:

"There it was— a ghostly, phosphorescent spheroid of light, waving and swaying behind the horses and moving along the dashboard. At one instant it looked like a reflection and at another it seemed to be a small body emitting the pale light itself. The light shifted to one side and next appeared under the wagon, and as they followed it with their eves it rested over the body of the prostrate John Jordan, who was uneasily slumbering. In a moment the light waved up and down and vanished in the darkness to the rear. Nothing was said to the prisoner about the peculiar experience of the night. Later in the day, however, Jordan revived and began to talk.

'Say, Sheriff,' he began, 'I've got something to tell you.'

 'Yes?'

'I aint going to last long, Sheriff.'

'Don't talk like that. You're badly wounded, but you'll pull through as soon as you set medical attention and an easy berth. '

' No, I'll not,' Jordan reiterated stubbornly. 'I've called the last turn, I feel it. Last night I saw my sister. My sister's dead you know. She's the only one that ever thought much about me. Maybe I ought to have been a better man. Sheriff, but let that pass. Well, Sis came to me last night. I saw her as plain as I see you now. She was all in white, Sheriff, all in white. She pitied me and pointed to mv eye, where I got them shots in my head.'

Jordan was wounded in the head and a bullet or shot penetrated the eye. He is no better and is not expected to live."

In Episode 8 of Season 16 of the Ancient Aliens TV show, we have an account by astronaut Jerry Linenger, who at the 16:41 mark says that while on a Russian space station Mir he saw a "white globular-looking thing" that looked like a snowball while looking out the window. The object was never identified.

Below is an excerpt from pages 184 to 185 of The Problems of Psychical Research by Hereward Carrington.

"Dr. Baraduc had prepared a camera beside the bed of his wife, and, at the moment of her death, photographed the body, and shortly after developed the plate. Upon it were found three luminous globes resting a few inches above the body. These gradually condensed and became more brilliant. Streaks of light, like fine threads, were also seen darting hither and thither. A quarter of an hour after the death of his wife, Dr. Baraduc took another photograph. Fluidic cords were seen to have developed, partly encircling these globes of light. At three o’clock in the afternoon, or an hour after her death, another photograph was taken. It will be seen from this photograph that the three globes of light have condensed and coalesced into one, obscuring the head of Madame Baraduc, and developing towards the right. Cords were formed in the shape of a figure eight, closed at the top, and opened at the point nearest the body. Thus, as the globe develops in one direction, the cords seem to become more tense, and pull in the opposite direction. The separation becomes more and more complete, until finally, three and a half hours after death, a well-formed globe rested above the body, apparently held together by the encircling, luminous cords, which seemed also to guide and control it. At this moment, the globe becomes separated from the body, and, guided by the cords, floats into Dr. Baraduc’s bedroom. He speaks to the globe intensely; the globe thereupon approaches him, and he feels an icy cold breeze, which seems to surround and issue from the ball of light. It then floats away and disappears.

Frequently, within the next few days after these experiments, Dr. Baraduc saw similar globes in various parts of the house. By means of automatic writing, obtained through the hand of a non-professional psychic, he succeeded at last in establishing communication with this luminous ball, and was informed that it was the encasement of Madame Baraduc’s soul, which was still active and alive within it!"

The photos referred to can be seen here.

Baraduc may have been the first person to ever publish a photograph of a mysterious orb.  That photo is discussed in my post here

At the website "Stan Gordon's UFO Anomalies Zone," we have a headline of "Three Low Level Glowing Spheres Nearly Strike Car Near Smithfield, Pennsylvania-September 18, 2024."   We read this:

"During more recent years, reports of small, low level, balls of light and sometimes referred to as orbs, have increased and are continuing to be reported from widespread locations. Some of these cases have taken place during daylight, within feet of observers and in good weather conditions. There are other incidents that are more startling such as these “mini-UFOs” appearing inside of homes, and in some cases physiological effects have been reported. Over the years I have received daylight reports of these smaller objects pacing vehicles and even entering the vehicles at times."

We read this account from a witness.

" She was driving northbound on 119 when suddenly the three objects appeared from the left side of the road and moved across her path of travel at about hood-height.  She said she would have likely hit them had she not slammed on her brakes.  She stated the three balls moved in a straight line with just a few feet between them across the road and into the field below on her right.  Each sphere was white, and about twelve inches in diameter.  "

On page 124 of Volume 10 of the Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research (1894), which you can  read here, we read this account by a Miss Williams:

(191. 2.) From Miss Williams. 11, Cleveland-terrace, Coatham, Redcar, September 23rd, 1889.

"I was living at home with my parents at Eston-in-Cleveland. There was a working man called Long living in the village, not far from our house, whose wife was taken ill. Dr. Fulton, who at that time was staying with us, came in one night between 9 and 10 o'clock and said Mrs. Long was dying. After that we sat talking over the fire a good while, and then my sister Isabella and I went off to bed. We slept in a back bedroom, and after we got to this bedroom I said, ' Oh, I've forgotten something in the large bedroom !' To this latter I proceeded by myself, and, as I approached the door, something seemed to say to me, ' You'll see something of Mrs. Long, living or dead ! ' But I thought no more of this, and entered the bedroom, which I had to cross to the opposite end for what I wanted. When I had got the things in my hand, I noticed a lovely light hanging over my head. It was a round light —perfectly round. I had taken no light with me, but went for the things I wanted in the dark. I looked to see if there was any light coming in from the windows, but there was none : in that direction there was total darkness. I grasped one hand with the other and stood looking at the strange light to be sure that I was not deceived and was not imagining it. I walked across the room to the door, and all the way the light was hanging between my head and the ceiling. It was akin to the electric light : something of a cloud, though every part of it was beaming and running over with light. It left me at the bedroom door. On first seeing it a strange impression seized me, and after it left me I was so impressed that I could not speak of it to anyone for a day or two. I wondered at the time whether it had anything to do with Mrs. Long, and on inquiry I found that she died just about the time when I saw the light. If there was any difference, I judged it would be a little before, but there would not be much in it. This would be about 11 p.m , and about four years ago. It left an impression on my mind which I have never forgotten, and never shall forget. Mrs. Long was not ill many days—about two or three ; she died rather suddenly. I was rather interested in her. I did not see her during her illness, but had often seen her and talked to her before.  I was perfectly well at the time. and was in no trouble or anxiety. My age at the time was 23. I have had no experience of the kind before or since. I saw no figure, only a lovely light. Before telling my sister I made her promise she would not ridicule me nor call me superstitious. To the best of my recollection this is a correct statement. "

-- Mary Helena Williams.

"' P.S. —-The light which I saw was a palish blue. It emitted no rays, so that all the rest of the room was in darkness. It was wider in circumference than my head, so that as I walked I could see it above me without raising my head. As I left the room it remained, and when I looked again was gone. It was in a corner, where the darkness of the room was deepest and the least chance of illumination from the windows on the right and left, that I first saw it above my head. I had no fear, but a kind of sacred awe. The light was unlike any other that I ever saw, and I should say brighter than any other, or, at least, purer. Looking at it did not affect the eyes. It was midway between my head and the ceiling."

On the next page Mary's sister corroborates the account.

A recent news article is entitled "Surprise city earns title of 'new UFO capital' after series of strange floating lights."  Someone named Manoel Orro states this: "One of them was a man from the German embassy, who called me a while later saying that he was a very skeptical, very logical person, who didn’t have the courage to talk about this with anyone in his family, but that a ball of golden light had appeared inside the chalet and he asked me to explain it."

Naked-Eye Sightings of Mysterious Orbs (Part 9)

Below are some posts I have published about people reporting they saw mysterious orbs with the naked eye:

Below is a startling news report from the November 1, 1899 edition of the Washburn Times:

apparition news report

You can read the report on its original page using the link below:

https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn85040437/1899-11-01/ed-1/seq-2/

In an article entitled "A Memoir Offers an Insider’s Perspective Into the Pentagon’s U.F.O. Hunt," the New York Times reports that Luis Elizondo, who "ran highly classified programs for both the White House and the National Security Council," says that he saw mysterious green orbs flying around in his house. We read this:

"Elizondo also wrote in the memoir of personal encounters with U.A.P., describing green-glowing orbs about the size of a basketball that invaded his home on and off for over seven years. The objects were able to pass through walls, and behaved as if they were under intelligent control, he wrote.

The orbs were also witnessed by his wife, two daughters and their neighbors, he wrote."

We have four police witnesses of a spooky orb that moves from a road into the woods, and then changes color from yellow to red before disappearing.

The account below is one of the most spectacular orb reports ever. We read of a man (Stuart Blue Harary, with a preferred name of Blue Harary)  who had an out-of-body experience in which he reports his soul visiting friends. Harary claims that two of his friends reported seeing a ball of light at the same time as these "soul visits" occurred.

I had discussed the same person and his out-of-body experiences in my post here. Scott Rogo's research work with Blue Harary (Stuart Blue Harary) is described in Chapter 8 of his book Mind Beyond the Body: The Mystery of ESP Projection, which can be read here

The account in the image above is imperfect from an evidence standpoint, as it lacks the names of the corroborating witnesses. If you ever witness what you think is the paranormal, try to get the names of any corroborating witnesses, and ideally try and publish their names. If the witnesses do not want to have their names published, you can state in your report that you have the name of a corroborating witness, and can supply it upon request to a serious researcher such as an author, journalist. scientist or long-time scholar of related topics.

Below from 2013 are two reports of people seeing mysterious orbs in the sky:

On the page here, we read this:

"Fort Ontario has acquired a number of ghost stories. There is a nameless ghost in blue who wanders around the parade ground, and a luminous ball of light that is said to be seen near the guard posts at late night."

The story below appeared in an 1873 newspaper story  (click on the image to read it more clearly). We read of an apparition that sometimes takes a circular shape:

orb haunting

The story first appeared on the newspaper page shown below:

Below is a report from the Niagra, New York "Journal Register" of November 4, 1983.

"What is the explanation for the strange phenomenon which has been taking place over the steeple of a Protestant church in West Germany, in the town of Wanfried? Ever since early July, a mysterious ball of red light has been appearing nightly over the church. Thousands have seen it. Is it a hoax? An optical illusion? The result of mass hysteria? Or is it - as many who have seen it maintain - a supernatural occurrence?

Stray reports of visions are not that rare. But for an apparition to reappear regularly over a period of more than three months is extraordinary - even [if] there is some good explanation for it. So far, though, nobody has come up with an explanation. The possibility has been mentioned that the brilliant light of the apparition is 'St. Elmo's fire,' a flaming phenomenon sometimes seen in stormy weather at prominent points on a plane or ship or at the tops of church steeples. It a charge of electricity, which is reddish when positive (the ball of light over the German church has been described as red), and bluish when negative. But St, Elmo's fire is not known to appear in fair weather as is the case with the apparition in Germany. "

You can read the report below, on the top left corner of a page  (page 17) which also describes another case that may be even harder to explain: the Zeitoun apparition case.

https://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=jnr19831104-01.1.17&srpos=5&e=-------en-20--1--txt-txIN-%22mysterious+ball%22---------

At the link below, we read of two police officers who chased a "ball of light" UFO in the sky, reporting that the speed of the object seemed to match the speed of their vehicle:

https://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=crp19741024-01.1.15&srpos=26&e=-------en-20--21--txt-txIN-%22ball+of+light%22------

A similar report (involving a "big ball of light") is found here:

https://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=sacn19671221-01.1.12&srpos=32&e=-------en-20--21--txt-txIN-%22ball+of+light%22---------

Similarly, in the 2013 story here we read of someone seeing an orange ball of light in the sky for 30 minutes, and someone else reporting four red balls of light flying over his home, including a "very bright red ball."

https://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/?a=d&d=she20130912-01.1.15&srpos=34&e=-------en-20--21--txt-txIN-%22ball+of+light%22---------

The 1911 report below discusses a "ball of fire" lingering in the sky between 30 seconds and six minutes (according to different witness accounts):

Naked-Eye Sightings of Mysterious Orbs (Part 8)

Below are some posts I have published about people reporting they saw mysterious orbs with the naked eye:

Let us look at some more cases of this type.

The report below is contained on page 1 of the May, 1934 edition of The International Psychic Gazette, and seems to be a repetition of an account that appeared in the prestigious Times of London.

"PIRANO, a little town on the Istrian coast, peopled by fishermen and sailors, is greatly excited over a mysterious emanation of light which has roused the imagination and religious sentiments of the populace (says the Times.)

A woman, Anna Morano, was admitted to the local hospital some time ago suffering from asthma and hysterical attacks. About the middle of last month a nurse noted in the ward where the woman was sleeping with six or seven others an intense light of brief duration which came from the bed of the woman in the region of her chest. All the lights of the hospital were out and the windows closed. The nurse informed the doctors of what she had seen and the patient was watched.

For several successive evenings the luminous phenomenon was repeated. Sometimes the light was directed upwards and took the form of a globe, which shone in the darkness of the ward on to the nearest beds and even on to the walls, but at other times it lighted only the face of the patient and was in the form of rays. It was also seen to assume the appearance of broken rays resembling lightning. Its duration was invariably three or four seconds.

The Times also published a letter from Mr. R. H. Jackson, M .R .C. S., of Bridgeway, Bakewell, stating that a nurse described to him the case of a private patient who was lying in a comatose state for some days. A light resembling a small luminous globe floated into the room, and, after remaining a minute or two over the patient, disappeared. She did not mention the incident to the family, but discovered later that an old maidservant who shared duty with her had also seen it on several occasions."

The International Psychic Gazette story speculates that the strange sightings were "spirit lights."

You will read very few accounts of the paranormal as strange as the account below:

https://digitalcollections.lib.umanitoba.ca/islandora/object/uofm%3A2964732?solr%5Bquery

We read of a house in which unexplained water puddles were found. A paranormal investigator was brought in. Soon things much spookier were reported, as we read in the clip below:

Most people have heard of near-death experiences in which someone has a close brush with death, and reports having some striking paranormal-seeming experience that might include seeing his body from outside of it or a trip through some mysterious tunnel leading to some mystical realm where dead relatives are encountered, or events such as a rapid life review or encountering a Being of light. Much rarer than such accounts are accounts that have been called shared-death experiences. Such experiences were discussed in the 2010 book Glimpses of Eternity: Sharing a Loved One's Passage From This Life to the Next by Raymond Moody Jr.  In these "shared-death experience" accounts, a person in good health present when someone is dying may report some paranormal-seeming or mystical-experience far different from normal human consciousness.

On page 34 we have this account: "When his grandfather died, the young man was astounded to see 'a golden ball of light' rise from his chest and pass through the ceiling."   Another orb-related account is found on page 69.  On the day of a mother's death, a son recalls that "a globe of bright light formed around us," with scenes from the mother's life mysteriously projected on this globe.

The site www.adcrf.org is the site of an Afterdeath Communication Research Foundation organization. The site documents experiences that are often called "after-death communication." Such experiences include a wide variety of experiences in which someone may feel that there is some causal connection between the experience and a deceased person. These include things such as dreams of the deceased,  a feeling of presence involving a deceased person, or some synchronicity experience similar to the one I reported here and here

In a recent experience reported on the site, a person states this:

"I knew when Barbara died. She walked up to a pitch black wall and opened a door. Beyond the door was bright white light. Before she went through the door, she said 'see you later.' Very soon after that, I felt and saw a very strong bond of 100% commitment between us. It's an unbreakable bond. A day or so after that, I see her blue orb with her telepathic talking to me. I knew it was her. This was in the evening when I was watching TV."

On HBO Max there is a series "Black Files Declassified" which has some interesting episodes. Episode 2 of Season 2 is entitled "Secrets of the Paranormal." The host interviews an investigator (M. J. Banias) who says he has seen strange things at Skinwalker Ranch.  At the 10:10  mark the investigator says, "There's been a lot of ghost lights, blue orbs and you'll see footprints, and you'll hear things behind you, but there's nothing there."

For another report of orbs being reported at Skinwalker Ranch, see my post here

At the 1:50 mark in the program, host Mike Baker claims there was something called an Advanced Aerospace Weapon Systems Application Program, and that "its focus was on the paranormal, including ... ghosts and floating orbs." This claim comes from Banias.

The approach taken by host Mike Baker in the rest of the episode seems like a ridiculous one. He spends almost the entire episode rounding up some people who try to advance very dubious-sounding theories that secret government high-energy projects produced orb sightings.

In the HBO Max TV series "UFO Witness,"  Episode 2 of Season 2 has a theme of orb sightings. We hear near the beginning, "Sightings of glowing orb-shaped craft are on the rise," followed by the question "What do these aliens want?"  The narrator seems to be jumping to conclusions here, assuming that any orb seen in the sky is some craft from another planet.  We don't know what causes naked eye sightings of orbs.

"There's definitely light orbs in the sky," says one of the hosts, while in Auburn, Massachusetts (USA). Another host says, "Specifically there's been many sightings of a UFO that looks like a glowing orb."  A narration then says (at the 1:43 mark) this: "In 2021 alone 48 glowing orb-shaped UFO's were spotted from New York to Maine."  We hear an eyewitness account by a woman named Samantha Dick who in 2021 around 4 AM  saw a bright color-changing orange orb "like a blob of lava" floating about, one she captured in a video that seems to show something very bright hanging in the air.

Around the 28:15 mark someone says, "You have a lot of these people that have these interactions with these orbs, and are experiencing missing time."  In a UFO encounter, a person will sometimes claim "missing time" involving a few hours that he can't account for.

In Episode 4 of Season 2, a woman says at about the 30:00 mark, "On my reservation we see these glowing orbs of light every night."

Early in the first episode of Season 1 of another TV series "Aliens in Alaska" we have an account by a couple who saw a big orange orb in the sky, describing it as extremely bright. We see some video footage showing such an orb in the sky. At the 17:20 mark of the second episode of Season 1a witness tells of seeing an orange sky orb going back and forth, and then suddenly disappearing. We have a similar report around the 39:00 mark and the 40:00 mark. At the 12:48 mark in Episode 4, Colei Stockton recalls seeing a bright orange ball of light in the night sky, one that soon disappeared.  She says it was followed by a sighting of a huge ship in the sky. Around the 22:04 mark a witness says he saw two orange orbs in the sky.

Naked-Eye Sightings of Mysterious Orbs (Part 7)

Below are some posts I have published about people reporting they saw mysterious orbs with the naked eye:

Let us look at some more cases of this type.

In 2012 NASA released a light map of planet Earth made from observations by an orbiting satellite. The map was made from data acquired over nine days in April 2012 and 13 days in October 2012. Most continents appeared as expected. For example, the map of the United States showed many lights around the heavily populated east coast, but not much light around the Rocky Mountains, where much fewer people live.

But the light map had one big surprise: there were many lights shown over the eastern half of western Australia. The eastern half of western Australia has little population. So how could there be all these lights coming from such a sparsely populated area?  In my 2015 post here I discuss how a NASA "burn map" discredits the explanation that the lights were caused by vegetation fires.

The very interesting TV show "What on Earth?" which can be seen on HBO Max deals mostly with anomalies that show up in satellite photos. One episode partially deals with the Australian mystery lights (Season 1, episode 6).  Below is a photo of my TV screen at the moment the program was discussing the strange lights.  Few people live in the area with most of the lights we see below.

At the 36 minutes left mark in the episode, we have an interview with an aboriginal Australian named Francis who suggests an explanation.  He recalls seeing several times what the Australians call "min min lights."  The narrator says this:  "For centuries, aboriginal peoples have told stories of bright hovering lights in Australia; they're known as min min lights."

Francis gives this eyewitness account:

"This light would appear from -- it seems from out of nowhere, I can't explain it. But it was a shimmering ball of fire-like substance. It would dance through the trees to its own rhythm, it would seem. It would hover there and shimmer and then PHEW it was gone."

The narrator tells us that there have been thousands of reports of these mysterious "min min lights," and that "eyewitnesses report seeing glowing orbs in the sky." The episode gives us no preferred explanation of the cause of the lights shown on the screen above, leaving the matter as one of its many unsolved mysteries.

An Australian news article says this about this topic:

"The lights have been described by witnesses as floating, fast-moving balls of colour that glow in the night sky...Sometimes the lights are blue and other times they are white or yellow.

In Queensland, the Boulia Shire Council notifies visitors 'in the interest of tourism' that they are in the land of the Min Min lights and that they may spot them as they drive for the next 120 kilometres....Some Aboriginal people believe the Min Min lights are the spirits of elders."

The following case report comes from a scientific paper published in Frontiers in Psychology:

"One evening, while I was in the room where we were staying, I suddenly saw a great white light. It was not dazzling, but its whiteness was unnatural, I mean it did not seem to be like the white light from natural or artificial sources we know, nor did it come in from outside. Then, some balls of light appeared; I did not count them, but there were perhaps five or six, and they could have been about 1.5 meters in diameter. These balls were translucent with the same color as the light, but less transparent and thicker, though I noticed that they did not cast any shadow. At the time, I had a profound feeling as if all the beings of the world were within me and, at the same, I felt as if I were within them. The source of light was ellipsoid. It was Love and Joy, and I felt a sort of stream through me. I use the term ‘stream’, but it was not so clearly definable. I cannot use the term ‘wind’, because wind comes from outside, while I felt this stream inside me. I was so enraptured that I had stopped breathing. I was fully lucid, however, and realized that I was not breathing, so I started breathing again, but my breathing disturbed the vision and, after a few breaths, it vanished.”

Recently in the news we read this story:

"Images and videos of the observation flooded Chinese social media platforms Monday, with many users commonly describing it as a 'misty ball of light' that moved from west to east without emitting any sound...The ball of light appeared Monday morning above the nation's capital and as far as Tianjin and the central province of Shanxi and Shandong in the east."

We then hear some astronomer speculating about excess fuel released by a rocket, but the speculation does not sound very plausible, and no evidence is provided to back it up. We should remember in cases like these that scientists are almost infinitely imaginative in inventing stories to explain sightings they find embarrassing, and seem to prefer the most wispy speculation to simply saying, "I don't know what that was."

The report below of a mysterious orb comes from 1837:

"During the night a luminous sphere was observed by local people. It came closer to the ground at dawn, illuminating the fields with an intense reddish glow."

In the same book we read this:

"Imagine that we have been transported back in time to Hamburg, Germany, on the 15th day of December in the year of the Lord 1547. Historian Simon Goulart, in his Tresors Admirables et Memorables de notre Temps (1600) writes that on that day the sailors who were aboard ships in the harbor of Hamburg saw in the air, at midnight, a glistening globe as fiery as the Sun."

On another page of the book we read of a Saint Benedict who "saw the soul of Germanus, Bishop of Capua, in a fiery globe to be carried up by Angels into heaven."  Another page of the book gives us this account from 1382:

"Before the Maillets uprising, a fiery flashing globe was seen for a period of eight days, 'roaming from door to door above the city of Paris, without there being any wind agitation nor lightning or noise of thunder, and on the contrary, the weather never ceased to be serene.' "

1433 report stated that "a luminous globe appeared in the air for several hours." We read that 11 years later in Italy the following occurred:

"Over three months multiple witnesses saw globes of light, golden in color, both inside and outside a church. The story by Don Massimo, a Benedictine monk, mentions that 'turning to the church he and his companions saw a globe as thick as a printing press.' "

We read that in 1650 "A luminous globe brighter than the Moon shed a vertical light on the city, and then it faded as it passed over the enemy camp."

From 1729 we have this account:

"Two hours prior to sunrise, M. Suen-Hof saw red vapors in the sky, which stretched in wide bands from north to south, then proceeded to gather together into a fiery globe about two feet in diameter. The globe kept moving in the same direction where the reddish vapors had appeared. It emitted sparks and was as bright as the sun. After moving through a quarter of the sky it disappeared abruptly, leaving thick black smoke and a burst of sound similar to cannon shot."

The same page tells us the next year someone saw "an amazing Globe of fire," as large as a building. In 1864 the following was reported in Florence, Italy.

" 'A white globe of fire many times larger than the full moon seemed hanging almost motionless in the air.'  Shades of orange and blue passed over its surface. After a full minute it suddenly disappeared, vanishing on the spot. The witness adds: 'Only just before its disappearance a smaller ball was seen immediately below it, of a fiery orange colour, the first one appearing at that moment of the same hue."

We had recently in the Daily Mail an article with the title "Mystery of Massachusetts' 'Monsterland' - a five-mile stretch of unchartered woods where locals claim they've seen flying saucers, glowing orange orbs and BIG FOOT."  The article is about a wooded area near Leominster, Massachusetts in the USA. We have a video interview with a Bigfoot investigator. At the 2:10 mark in the video the man says, "We witnessed a ball of light change and turn into two eyes...and then become basically this eight-foot shadow that ran in front of us."

We read this:

"Claims of apelike creatures, humanoid footprints, and car engines suddenly giving out are now rife - with several, including Le Blanc, spotting strange orbs floating overhead.

He believes the latter and the at-large beast are indelibly linked, citing other reports of people actually spotting the monster holding these 'orange spheres'.

Different objects described as 'flying saucers' have also been reported, with some caught on camera.

Le Blanc suspects they are all related, and claims to have witnessed the floating orbs at least nine times over the years

Several other sightings have been reported since, including one on July 3 of 2012, and another almost ten years later on April 13, 2022.

Both occurrences were caught on camera, and the orbs in each are eerily identical.

All the more alarming is that the strange orange objects - reminiscent even from afar of fireballs - fit the descriptions of countless Leominster residents over the decades, including several whom have spoke to Le Blanc.

'People have seen Bigfoot holding an orb,' he told the outlet during a tour through  the area in 2022. 'They look like a basketball with plasma swirling around and they’re silent. I've just seen them hovering over the sky and just blink out and disappear.' "

The British medium Gladys Osborne Leonard achieved successes so remarkable that she is sometimes called "the British Leonora Piper," a reference to a medium whose successes are described here.  Gladys stated that she was visiting friends while her mother was sick, and Gladys awoke at 2 AM:

"I looked up and saw in front of me, but about five feet above the level of my body, a large, circular patch of light about four feet in diameter. In this light I saw my mother quite distinctly.  Her face looked several years younger than I had seen it a few hours before. A pink flush of health was on her cheeks, her eyes were clear and shining, and a smile of utter happiness was on her lips. She gazed downward on me for a moment, seeming to convey to me an intense feeling of relief and a sense of safety and well-being. Then the vision faded. I was awake all the time, quite conscious of my surroundings."

The next day she found her mother had died at 2 AM.

The book "Automatic Or Spirit Writing: With Other Psychic Experiences" by Sara A. Underwood is an interesting account of the paranormal, one that can be read online free using the link here. On page 35 Sara gives this account of witnessing the death of a friend:

"Slowly over the dying one's face spread a mellow radiant mist — I know no other way to describe it. In a few moments it covered the dying face as with a veil, and spread in a circle of about a foot beyond, over the pillow, the strange yellowish white light all the more distinct from the partial darkness of the room. Then from the center of this, immediately over the hidden face, appeared an apparently living face with smiling eyes which looked directly into mine, gazing at me with a look so full of comforting assurance that I could scarcely feel frightened. But it was so real and so strange that I wondered if I were temporarily crazed, and as it disappeared I called some one from another room, and went out into the open air for a few moments to recover myself under the midnight stars. When I was sure of myself I returned and took my place again alone. Then I asked that, if that appearance were real and not an hallucination, would it be made once more manifest to me ; and again the phenomenon was repeated, and the kind, smiling face looked up at me — a face new to me yet wondrously familiar."

Naked Eye Sightings of Mysterious Orbs (Part 6)

Below are some posts I have published about people reporting they saw mysterious orbs with the naked eye:

At the interesting thread here at www.citi-data.com, a user starts the thread with this comment

"My ex boyfriend passed away a little over four years ago. Four months after, I saw a gold/red colored orb in my bedroom. Without going into details, I just want to ask how many of you have received 'signs' after your loved one passed away?"

There are some very interesting answers in the nine pages of the thread.  For example, one user says, "My sister's broken grandfather clock started to chime when my grandmother passed away."

A user tells this interesting account:

"After my grandma died, she visited me in a dream, in her younger, healthier self, took me to this beautiful place that I remember describing as heaven (bright, pearly, just a lot of light and light feelings) and played games with me. She introduced me to her older brother who died when he was 7 (he still looked like a kid my age at the time) and we all played and she just made me feel...safe. She always had that ability. Anyways I woke up and my aunt who slept with me that night to comfort me told me that in my sleep I jumped up, raised my hands in the air and yelled, 'OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE THIS IS!!!!!!!!!' And then laid back down. So I told her the dream. I told her about the little boy and my family looked shocked because they couldn't understand how I knew her older brother."

On another page of the thread a user says this:

"I smelled peonies in the dead of winter in my bedroom when my dads mom passed. It was her favorite flower and she grew them."

On another page a user reports asking his father for a sign after death, specifically mentioning playing the piano. He says that a while later his own son reported the piano in the house playing by itself.

On another page a user says that soon after his mother died, "I did see an orange orb in my windowless dark basement." He says, "I then called my sister who explained that on her way home, she saw a ball of light in her SUV."  He also reports "a light shining up from the floor to the ceiling" in a house he had lived in for 20 years without seeing such a thing.

When I was visiting the first of these pages, I got a spooky effect. The web page flickered like mad, very noticeably, on and on and on.

The long and very fascinating work Footfalls on the Boundary of Another World by former US congressman Robert Dale Owen (which can be read online for free here) is a classic of literature about the paranormal. The 1872 book The Debatable Land Between This World and the Next by the same author is a worthy successor volume of equal length.  In that book on page 468 Owen reports on what we saw at a seance on October 26, 1860. To prevent any trickery, Owen was careful to make sure all the doors to the room were locked, and also made sure that throughout the session all of the four persons present joined each other's hands in the center of the table where they sat. Under such conditions, Owen reported seeing this:

"After a few minutes, there appeared a luminous body of an irregularly circular form, about four inches in diameter, floating between us and the door which was back of Mrs. Underhill. It was somewhat brighter than when it first appeared on the previous occasion ; that is, on the twenty-first of October."

On the next page, Owen reports that at this session there appeared an illuminated mysterious figure, a kind of grayish cloud that eventually stated "God bless you." On the next page after that, Owen said he saw an outline of a head and face.

Owen recalls seeing in 1867 a luminous female apparition:

"It was a female figure, of medium height, veiled and draped, from head to foot, in white. The drapery did not resemble, in material, anything I have ever seen worn. It gave me, as on a previous occasion, the exact feeling of the Scriptural expression, 'shining raiment.' Its brilliancy was a good deal like that of new-fallen snow, in the sunshine ; recalling the text which declares the garments of Christ, during his transfiguration, to have been ' exceeding white as snow ; ' or, again, it was not unlike the finest and freshest Parian marble with a bright light on it, only more brilliant. It had not at all the glitter of spangles or any shining ornament ; the tone being as uniform as that of a newly-sculptured statue. It stood upright, in a graceful attitude, motionless."

On the next page Owen says, "Then it slowly receded, still facing us, to the center of the opposite wall... gradually diminishing in brightness ; and finally it vanished before my eyes."  Owen later says, "Certain it is, that I beheld the gradual formation of the figure ; that I witnessed its movements ; that I received from its hand an actual flower ;  that I saw the figure disappear."

On page 484 we have this account, mentioning Estelle, Mr. Livermore's late wife:

"Mr. L. sealed the windows, sealed and locked the doors, and placed heavy furniture against them ; then searched the room thoroughly and extinguished the gas. Soon came the words : ' I am here in form.' Then a globular light appeared, with crackling sounds. After a time it became a head, veiled : then, but for a single instant only, Mr. L. recognized the features of Estelle. Then a figure was seen : all this being visible by phosphorescent or electrical lights in various parts of the room. During all this time Mr. L. held both of the medium's hands. Then the mode of producing raps was shown : an orange-shaped luminous ball, with blunt point attached, bounding up and down on the table, and the sound, of each rap coinciding with the approach of the ball to the tabletop."

Mr. Livermore reported that a few months later there occurred an equally astonishing appearance of his late wife Estelle:

"The form remained in sight fully half an hour and each movement was distinctly visible. Then came the message : ' Now see me rise. '  And immediately, in full brightness, the figure rose to the ceiling, remained there a few moments suspended ; then gently descending, disappeared.  Afterward she showed herself between us and a mirror. The reflection of the figure in the glass was distinctly visible, the light being so bright as to show the veins in a marble slab beneath.  Here a heavy shower of rain fell, and there was spelled out: ' The atmosphere has changed. I cannot remain in form : ' whereupon both light and figure finally disappeared."

Later Mr. Livermore reports this:

" At last a luminous globe which had remained stationary some six feet to my left floated in front, and came within two feet of me. It was violently agitated, crackling sounds were heard, and a figure became visible by its light. Then there was revealed the full head and face of Estelle, every feature and lineament in perfection, spiritualized in shadowy beauty, such as no imagination can conceive or pen describe. In her hair, above the left temple, was a single white rose ; the hair being apparently arranged with great care. The entire head and face faded and then became visible again, at least twenty times ; the perfection of recognition, in each case, being in proportion to the brilliancy of the light."

On the 68th page of the document here, showing page 182 on the printed page, we have an account from the March 25, 1922 edition of the publication Light.  The account is pretty good from an evidence standpoint. It is an account of what was seen two months earlier. The author (Dorothy Monk) is named, and she tells us that there were eight witnesses of one of the reported anomalies (a spooky mist at a deathbed).  We read this account by the author of seeing her mother's death.

"The sister who first saw it about this time also saw a large blue globe-like light resting on mother's head, but none of the rest of us could see it. She explained that the  inside appeared all moving and gradually it turned to deep purple and faded out. About seven o’clock that evening mother’s lips parted and from that time we gradually saw a thick white mist collect above her head and spread across the head of the bed. It came from the top of her head, but collected more thickly to the opposite side of the bed to which she was lying. It hung like a cloud of white steam, sometimes so thick we could scarcely see the bed rails, but continually it was varying although it moved so slowly as to be scarcely perceptible. I and my five sisters were still with her all saw it distinctly, also my brother and one brother-in-law. The blue lights continued about the room, also tiny flashes of yellow, like sparks, appeared sometimes. All this time mother’s lower jaw gradually fell a little. For some hours we saw little difference except that a halo of pale yellow light rays came round her head; there were about seven in number; they varied in length from twelve to twenty inches at different times. By midnight every-thing had cleared off, but she did not die until 7.17 on the morning of January 2nd."

Charlton Templeman Speer claims to have witnessed a variety of paranormal phenomena at seances of William Stainton Moses, a 19th-century figure greatly admired for his scholarship and moral character. One thing he claims to have witnessed is something resembling teleportation. He states this:

"The passage of matter through matter was sometimes strikingly demonstrated by the bringing of various articles from other rooms, though the doors were closed and bolted. Photographs, picture-frames, books, and other objects were frequently so brought, both from  rooms on the same floor and from those above. How they came through the closed doors I cannot say, except by some process of de-materialisation, but come they certainly did, apparently none the worse for the process, whatever it might have been."

Besides also describing numerous inexplicable scents and mysterious music, Speer tells us that orbs were seen rising up from the ground and apparently passing through a heavy table.  We read this:

"These lights were of two different kinds— objective and subjective. The former usually resembled small illuminated globes, which shone brightly and steadily, often moved rapidly about the room, and were visible to all the sitters. A curious fact in connection with these lights always struck me, viz., that looking on to the top of the table one could see a light slowly ascending from the floor, and to all appearance passing out through the top of the table — the table itself apparently not affording any obstacle to one’s view of the light. It is a little difficult to explain my meaning exactly, but had the top of the table been composed of plain glass, the effect of the ascending light, as it appealed to one’s organs of vision, would have been pretty much the same as it was, seen through the solid mahogany. Even then, to make the parallel complete, it would be necessary to have a hole in the glass top of the table, through which the light could emerge. The subjective lights were described as being large masses of luminous vapour floating round the room and assuming a variety of shapes. Dr. Speer and myself, being of entirely unmediumistic temperaments, were only able to see the objective lights, but Mr. Stainton Moses, Mrs. Speer, and other occasional sitters frequently saw and described those which were merely subjective. Another curious point in relation to the objective lights was that, however brightly they might shine, they never, unlike an ordinary lamp, threw any radiance around them, or illuminated the smallest portion of the surrounding darkness — when it was dark — in the slightest degree."

A researcher named Simon Young has done a survey of people reporting sightings of fairies or anything looking like a fairy. He has produced a 353-long document you can read online at the link here. I am surprised that so many people have provided reports to his survey. Maybe I should revise my previous opinion that there only rarely occurs claims to have sighted something like a fairy.  The accounts were gathered from responses to an online survey form here.

It would be too much work to summarize the more interesting accounts, so I will limit myself to accounts in the survey in which people claimed to have seen orbs.  Some are below:

  • Page 20: "They looked like brightly coloured orbs that changed size sometimes. They were always smaller than my hand and the colours varied e.g. blue, red, yellow, green etc."
  • Page 22: "We [Mexican and Belgian nationals] saw golden yellow orbs in Tintagel."
  • Page 54: "I saw bright green orbs hanging in the air in the bedroom."
  • Page 125: "The orbs swirled about as I sat in the middle of the mattress with sheets wrapped around my lower half,... I found myself in the immediate company of hundreds of floating orbs that were doing wonderful impressions of soap bubbles."
  • Page 126: "Moving again the orb passed by my ear and I heard a soft whirring sound that solicited goose bumps to rise on top of my clammy skin. I smiled and giggled aloud with the realization that this was an intelligent, living being, and it was responding in kind to my thoughts."
  • Page 128: "I was around eleven years old when a friend and myself saw an orb of light floating above the trees in the back woods where I grew up."
  • Page 138: " ‘I saw it flying in a circle like loop on way [sic] and then another through the kitchen window. It was really windy outside after a rainstorm and it moved against the wind. It had an organic movement to it....I want to say if I’m being very objective it was an orb."
  • Page 155: "I’ve seen orbs and UFO type things."
  • Page 165: "‘Fell asleep, woke up to the sound of bells tinkling. Looked around my room to see a small blue orb floating around for one to two minutes then it faded out."
  • Page 175: "It was orb-shaped and looked to be about like one foot in circumference, and its color was a really bright pink....It was like a bright pink orb almost as big as a basketball."
  • Page 182 "I have however, now in the last three to five years, begun seeing and experiencing light orbs, light beings, and even capturing them on the security cameras inside my home."
  • Page 187: "I also have seen little light orbs floating around at sunset/nighttime."
  • Page 193: "I saw a winged creature in a golden orb playing with my aunt’s cat."
  • Page 199: "In my peripheral vision, I saw this beautiful, adorable, pink orb. It looked like it was fluttering in place, as if it had large butterfly wings. I looked directly at it, and it disappeared. I quickly looked away and it popped back out of nowhere still with fluttering pink wings. I did not see any face or body; it did not let me look directly at it."
  • Page 211: "I also saw light orbs twinkling close to the wall and on the ceiling."
  • Page 215: "We were on our front lawn at night, and we saw a small orb of orange light moving around in the forest, leaving a trail. It then hovered in one spot, maybe two hundred feet from us, for hours..... Then, night four, I saw several of these orbs, now bluish white, appear from a tree, then they flew, lit up, about one-hundred-and-fifty feet, and stopped directly in front of my house... A closer one appeared to be about three- to four-inches tall, fluttering goldish wings within a bluish orb."
  • Page 217: " I walked across the backyard and just had that feeling that something was there and when I turned around, just a few inches above the ground was an orb. It was golden and full of light but inside it you could see swirls of colors such as blues, pinks and purples."
  • Page 226: "They were blue orbs. And then they disappeared."
  • Page 252: "The children were surrounded by thousands upon thousands of little lights. My youngest daughter had an orb with a visible baby’s face at her feet."
  • Page 270: "At the end of my bed and to the right there was an orb, but almost like a sparkle. I would say it was white and yellow."
  • Page 276: "A skyblue light, orb-like but with indistinct, fading boundaries flew slowly from behind me into my field of vision, about a foot or two from my face."
  • Page 298: "I looked at my closet door and I saw many colorful orbs moving over its surface. There were at least five of them, each one of a different color. I remember the colors green, yellow and pink (and maybe blue and white). "
  • Page 321: "In 2005, an orb of light about six inches in diameter floating about six inches above the floor in our hallway one afternoon. It floated beside me and disappeared before passing near my husband’s shin. We were stunned and I wish I said or greeted this white light ball which seemed to have brighter light planes within it. My husband saw it also, but he only saw it glowing and didn’t notice the planes of brighter or denser light moving within."
  • Page 328: " Coming by her side we witnessed the formation of orb-shaped lights of warm colours (red, yellow and green) hovering above my street, quite above the highest building in my neighbourhood but below the clouds. Maybe a hundred metres or lower. It’s hard to tell how big they were from that distance, but probably more than one metre in orb radius...There were six orbs that slowly changed colours, flying in the sky in a manner different from drones, planes or birds. At they were gliding slowly forming a ring, then suddenly they broke the pattern into three pairs circling each other playfully, something like chasing one another....The orbs felt more like living entities than devices or machines, their way of moving and changing colour felt playful and deliberate, like dancing or playing a game."
In a Buddhist work quoted by two UFO researchers, we have the following account of a mysterious orb:

"At midnight one of Japan's greatest saints, Nichiren Shonin (1222-1282), was being escorted to the beach to be executed. Just before the fatal moment, a brilliant sphere as large as the moon flew over, illuminating the landscape. The authorities were so frightened by the apparition that they changed their minds about putting Shonin to death. Instead, they exiled him to Sado Island, though this did not prevent his teachings from spreading. A branch of his teachings, the Sokka-Gakkei, has millions of adherents throughout the world today."

On page 3 of the March 12, 1875 edition of a newspaper, we have an account by Prince Emile De Sayn-Wittgenstein, who seems to be the same person described on the autobiographical page here.  Emile says, "I had, about a year and a half ago, tried in vain to convert a young lady to the belief that, under special conditions, her soul might quit her body and act independently of it." Eventually the woman give Emile one of her gloves, which Emile thought might help facilitate some experiment in which the two of them would test an ability to make a psychic contact with each other even though they were far separated.  Emile says that for weeks he intensely concentrated while holding the glove, thinking of the woman far away.  He reports this:

"I afterwards ascertained that she had often dreamt of me very clearly, and that she even remembered having once seen me writing at my table. Her description of my dress and of the room I occupied answered exactly to the reality. She also confirmed several facts and episodes of her private life, the particulars of which I had obtained in the way described."

Strangely, Emile reports that during what seemed like psychic contact between the two people far separated, he would see what could be described as a mysterious orb: "Every time her spirit answered my call, I felt a pleasant sort of shiver running down my back, while a sort of dim circular light, about as big as a plate, and of a pale, yellowish hue, appeared moving, to and fro near the ceiling."

A yellow mysterious orb? I've photographed 182 of those, as you can see by using the link here, and continuing to press Older Posts at the bottom right. Below is one of 100 photos I have taken of mysterious orbs that seemed to be traveling so fast they exhibited a kind of "string of pearls" effect in which we seem to see multiple position states of a single object. The photo is from my 2015 post here.
